            2012 Teacher of the Year

 
 
            
 Congratulations to Mrs. Cassandra Lambert, fifth grade Reading and Virginia Studies teacher, for being selected Teacher of the Year at LaCrosse Elementary School.  She was presented with a bouquet of flowers.  Mrs. Lambert has taught for 30 years.  Her first five years she taught at Lunenburg Elementary School.  We have been fortunate to have her at LaCrosse Elementary School for twenty five years.

Mrs. Patricia Stewart was presented with a bouquet of flowers by Mrs. Connie Puckett, principal of LaCrosse Elementary School, for being chosen as the Support Staff Person of the Year.  Mrs. Stewart has been the secretary at LaCrosse Elementary for five years.  Previously, she was the Kindergarten paraprofessional for five years.

 

 

Virginia Region 8 Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Rachel B. Johnson Honored at  the Virginia General Assembly
 
On Thursday, February 23, 2012. Mrs. Rachel B. Johnson, 2012 Virginia Region 8 Teacher of the Year was invited to attend a session of the General Assembly in the State Capitol to be recognized as Teacher of the Year.. Mrs. Johnson, along with the other regional teachers,  State Teacher and guests were seated in the Gallery  section of the House of Delegates. The House Speaker verbally acknowledged each Teacher of the Year and their guests. Congratulatory remarks were given by the House Speaker along with a  standing ovation from the delegates. Mrs. Johnson was accompanied by her husband, Ivory M. Johnson.

                           VFW State Teacher of the Year for Grades K-5

 Mrs. Rachel Johnson was invited to the Winter Council of Administration Meeting of the Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States and Ladies Auxiliary on January 20-22, 2012 at the Crowne Plaza Williamsburg at Fort Magruder Williamsburg, Virginia. Mrs. Johnson was recognized at the State Banquet on Saturday evening as the "State Teacher of the Year "for grades K-5. She received a plaque and a monetary award. She will now go on to compete at the national level for VFW National Teacher of the Year. Congratulations Mrs. Johnson!  From left to right:  Ivory M.   Virginia Board of Education Recognition for 2012 State and Regional Teachers of the Year
 
On Thursday, February 23, 2012, Mrs. Rachel B. Johnson, 2012 Virginia Region 8 Teacher of the Year, was invited to attend the Virginia Board of Education meeting at the James Monroe Building in Richmond, Virginia. Mrs. Johnson was presented  with a "Resolution of Recognition". The Resolution stated "Whereas, in recognition of her excellence as a teacher Mrs. Johnson is hereby named Virginia Region 8 Teacher of the Year , thereby representing the most dedicated of her colleagues and the finest work of her profession; and
Whereas, this recognition brings honor to Mrs. Johnson as a professional of the highest caliber and as one who applies her considerable gifts of heart and mind to ensuring that our schools and our young people are prepared to meet the demands of the future;
Now, therefore, be it resolved that the members of the Board of Education express to Mrs. Johnson their sincere congratulations upon her recognition as the 2012 Virginia Teacher of the Year for Region 8 and extend their heartfelt appreciation for her devoted service and effective leadership." Mrs. Johnson was accompanied to the meeting  with Dr. Kim Evans, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction for Mecklenburg County Public Schools and her husband, Ivory M. Johnson.

Congratulations Mrs. Rachel Johnson, Region Eight Teacher of the Year for 2012

                         

Mrs. Rachel Johnson, Title One Teacher at LaCrosse Elementary, is Region Eight Teacher of the Year for 2012.  She is accompanied by Dr. Evans and Dr. Thornton.

           

On September 20, 2011, we had a very special morning program at LaCrosse Elementary.  The program was opened by Mrs. Connie Puckett, our principal.  Dr. Evans spoke first with a poem entitled: A Wonderful Teacher, which celebrated teachers.  Mrs. Alga spoke second with a poem entitled:  A Very Special Teacher.  Mrs. Rogers spoke third.  She read A Good Teacher.  Dr. Thornton presented a plaque from Governor McDonnell naming Mrs. Rachel Johnson, Title One Teacher at LaCrosse Elementary, as Region Eight Teacher of the Year for 2012.
