Field Day at LaCrosse Elementary Helps Others
On Friday, May 29, the students at LaCrosse Elementary School enjoyed Field Day. Before participating in a variety of fun-filled activities of the day, the students dropped off non-perishable food that they brought from home to donate to the Bread Box. The school donated a total of 490 items, which was over 600 pounds of food! Linda and Wayne Roberts, pictured above with some of the first grade students, collected the items and delivered them to the Bread Box in South Hill.
LaCrosse Elementary School Students Enter Art Contest
Six LaCrosse Elementary School students created artwork that was chosen to represent their grade level for the Mecklenburg County School Board Association Art Contest. Junior American Citizens Art Contest
The Prestwood Chapter of the Virginia National Daughters of the American Revolution sponsored a Junior American Citizens Art Contest entitled, “America, Land of Opportunity”. LaCrosse Elementary School students pictured above (L-R) had designs that placed as follows:

LaCrosse Elementary School Pre-K Visits the Zoo
The LaCrosse Elementary School Pre-K class, pictured above with their teacher, Ms. Malesha Barnes, and aide, Mrs. Barbara Johnson, went on a field trip recently to the Metro Richmond Zoo. The students were very excited to see the animals, feed them, and learn how they live in various environments. As shown in one of the pictures above, the students even got an upclose look at a giraffe! It was a fun-filled day of learning for everyone!

School Nurse Day at LaCrosse
LaCrosse Elementary School honored the school nurse, Mrs. Susan Campbell, on National School Nurse Day, May 6. Mrs. Campbell received a framed Certificate of Recognition from Governor Tim Kaine, a giant syringe, flowers, and many cards of appreciation from the students, faculty and staff.
ABCs OF AGRICULTURE
Mrs. Betty Hall and Mrs. Ann Hudson, members of the Women's Committee of the Mecklenburg County Farm Bureau, visited LaCrosse Elementary School to help promote agriculture among the first grade students. They presented coloring books to each first grader which help to explain the ABCs of Agriculture. LaCrosse Elementary School Helping Others...
In an effort to help others and demonstrate a caring spirit, the students, faculty, and staff of LaCrosse Elementary School collected change to donate to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The official grand total collected was $1,083.03. Shown above with the collection boxes are (L-R) Hank Owen, Raquan Richardson, Jacob Hall, Cristen Hall, Timothy Kidd, and Ashantee Smith.
First Grade Students Present "Go Fish"
The first grade students at LaCrosse Elementary School presented a delightful musical, "Go Fish" by John Jacobson and John Higgins, on Thursday, March 19. Under the direction of Mrs. Trish Barton, Music teacher, the students entertained the audience with their representation of some of the various types of fish in the sea. Several of the fish had quirks which made them seem odd to other fish. There was a spotted zebra fish, an octopus with seven legs, a tuna fish that couldn't sing, and a star fish who hadn't had a leading role in months. After much discussion (some with the Great White Shark) and some clowning around by the clown fish, everyone learned in the end that it's ok to be different...and "different is nice"!

LaCrosse Elementary School observed National Guidance Counselor Week by honoring Mrs. Rebecca Jennings, the Guidance Counselor. Mrs. Jennings received a tiara and sash on Monday, becoming "Queen" Jennings for the week! She also received a giant poster card of appreciation, notes and flowers throughout the week. Did You Leave Your Mittens at Home?...
Mary Smithson and Patsy Boswell, of Trinity United Methodist Church in LaCrosse, presented LaCrosse Elementary School with a beautiful variety of handmade stocking hats and mittens. The caps and mittens will be given to students who are in need of them on cold winter days. Thankful Third Grade Students at LaCrosse Elementary
Third grade students at LaCrosse Elementary School presented a delightful musical, "A Time to Give Thanks", on Thursday, November 20. Under the direction of Mrs. Patricia Barton, Music Teacher, the students sang songs about the Pilgrims and the first Thanksgiving, favorite foods of the season, a special turkey dance, and the many things that they are thankful for. The finale of the program was "Thankful for the USA", which reflected on the many reasons we are proud and thankful to be in America.
